Dear Parents, August 3rd, 2020
Welcome to Second Grade! I am looking forward to working with you to help your child succeed!
My name is Mr. Duzan and I will be your child’s teacher this year. Second grade is an exciting time as your child continues along the adventurous road of learning. This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which the acquisition of new skills is accelerated.
During Second Grade, your child will be continuing their growth in the areas of reading, writing stories, adding, subtracting, and so much more. I hope to make your child's learning experience a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's years of schooling.
It’s unfortunate we were not able to start school in-person due to Covid-19. Distance Learning is challenging for everyone involved. We know this is temporary, and we will eventually be able to return back to “normal” in-person school. In the meantime, I will do my best to provide your child with a positive learning experience.
ALL class updates and happenings will be posted using the Class Dojo App. I have sent invitations to all you in Class Dojo. Several of you were already in Class Dojo, so you are all set. If you have not received anything from me, please send me your Email Address to email@example.com, next from your Smart Phone, download the Class Dojo App. Wait for my invitation and you should be all set. Let me know if you need help or have questions. If you do not have a smartphone, let me know and I can send you communications in a different way.
The main platform (program) we will be using while distance learning is called Seesaw. I have sent all of you an invitation to join. Please note that you will need to join as a parent to see your child’s work. Your child has a separate account that I have already setup. Please let me know if you need help or have a question about creating these accounts.
Your child’s daily schedule is as follows:
Breakfast: At home, before 8:10.
School Day: 8:10-3:10
Early Release Days: 9:00-9:40 (Starts August 12th)

Once we return to in-person learning, you are always welcome in our classroom. Just please make sure you get a visitor’s pass first. Volunteers are always wanted and appreciated! If interested, please let me know. If you have any questions feel free to call me at (623-772-2520), send a note, email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or best of all send me a Dojo Text.
It is important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes. Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in my class. Here are some ways you can help:
Celebrate your child's successes, no matter how small they may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work!
Read to and with your child every day. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom. Remember to record all reading in your child's reading log.
